The Accessories

One Room Challenge, Week 6

It’s Week 6 of the One Room Challenge and we took a little break this week on the room while family visited from North Carolina. It was a much-needed break in every way though. There’s a lot to be said for taking some time off to spend time with family. When I’m with my sister, it replenishes my soul and my creativity soars! Rest is productive, I promise!!!

Even though we haven’t made much progress in the room, I was able to order some of the accessories, and I can’t wait for these things to start arriving! Things I ordered this week:

The rug:  this is a Chris Loves Julia rug from their Jules Collection. I really loved the pattern and how it looks with our Farrow & Ball paint color – De Nimes. It’s a perfect harmony of color and texture.

The light:  I absolutely love this light from Hinkley. My only hesitation is that the ceiling fan in this room is brushed nickel. I have an idea about that so stay tuned.

The sofa:  I’m still on the fence about the sofa.  I have to study the measurements and decide which one will fit the best.  These are my two options:

The art:  I was able to get a good look at some of Doug’s collections so I can start to formulate a plan for what we will use on the walls, etc.

Doug had a few boxes in the garage that we had a good time going through. He even has lots of pictures he had taken on his deployments that we are excited about going through. I’m sure there are some hidden gems!  One I spotted on top was a picture of Doug in a crop top and short shorts that we had a good laugh over.  Doug said “hey - it was the 80’s!”  I honestly can’t wait to show the kids!😂

Doug has some really cool maps from his deployments that I want to get framed. He also has a few flags that we may use. These are flags from Army units or his deployments and they don’t quite go with the look I had envisioned so I’ve got to think on that a bit!

He also has numerous awards and plaques so I think we will do a gallery wall with those. Doug’s dad was also a veteran and we have some cool pictures of him on his deployments that I think will add to the vintage vibe of this room!

We haven’t made much progress on those artillery shell lamps yet and that is okay! Some things can’t be rushed and this is one of them. Hang with us and we will either show you something amazing or show you how it was a big, colossal flop.  Either way, we’ll take you along for the ride! Here’s the inspiration for the project as well as the type of finial that we were hoping to use, in case you missed our last post:

Don’t forget to check out the other projects at ORC blog and give the participants a follow on Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube!
