An Underrated Thrift-Store Gem: Vintage Green Glass

I first fell in love with green glassware when I was 9 years old.

It was 1974 and my family had fulfilled a dream of purchasing land in the country to build a house. Before the house could be built we had to clean up the debris from a house that had burned to the ground many years before this.  We all spent time picking up old cans and glass jars to clear off the property.  The house that had been there was so long ago that everything was covered with branches and leaves so we had to clear that off beforehand. My older brothers were 14 and 16 and we all had a blast running around on this property and discovering hidden treasures.  One of the most exciting finds was this green glass bottle.

For all I know, it could be an old Boones Farm bottle, but we didn’t care.😂  We thought it was a treasure! I still have the bottle and use it in the spring and summer for flowering branches. I have it sitting on my sideboard and I just love the way the light from the window reflects it back into the mirror. This is what started my passion for green glass.

My next piece is a green moon and stars canister that my daughter, Paige, got me for Christmas the year we were working so hard to get this blog started. She thought it would look nice in my photos and it is absolutely gorgeous! It is one of my favorite pieces! I have it on the buffet in my dining room on the bar tray and it also reflects beautifully in the mirror.

I have several more pieces in my office and I love to weave it in wherever I can.  Doug got me a gorgeous little green pitcher for Valentine’s day one year and had the ladies in home ec at his high school make a bouquet in the vase for me! So sweet!
