Reveal Week!

One Room Challenge, Week 8

It’s Week 8 of the Spring 2026 One Room Challenge and that can only mean one thing.....it’s Reveal Week!!! If you’ve been following from the beginning, then you’ll know that this round I decided to do a round of mini projects. These are projects that I’ve started but haven’t finished for one reason or another. Sadly, I didn’t finish all of the projects but one of them got very bossy, was a complete diva and took up most of my time.

1. Vintage Military-Inspired Home Office

We made progress on Doug’s office, but we are not quite finished.  We were shopping for a love seat or sofa bed for Doug’s office but we finally came to the realization that we just couldn’t find anything we liked that was going to fit through the entry of the room.  We decided to move a vintage curved church pew in there that had been serving as a catch all in our bedroom. It fit through the doorway perfectly and even though it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind, it’s grown on me!

I’ve ordered a custom-made cushion for it. It has been shipped but we don’t have it yet. I’ll have to update you on that on Instagram once it comes in so I can style Doug’s office.

2. Vintage K-Cup Holder

I found a vintage drawer that used to belong to an antique sewing machine. I thought the little drawers and the details on the side were so pretty!  My first thought was “that will make a perfect k-cup holder for us!” The drawer was in rough shape and didn’t have a top.  Oh, and I should mention that when we got it to the car from the vintage market, we decided to take the drawers out for the ride home. Inside was a creepy amount of stink bugs! Have you ever encountered a stink bug?  Well, they put out a godawful stink if touched or threatened in any way. We dumped them out and made 100% certain that none of those rode home with us.

We cleaned it up and glued all of the parts that were coming apart.  At one point, I think we had at least 4 or 5 clamps on it. It was quite the renovation job. Once everything was shored up, Doug used restore-a-finish on it. It made it look so good! Then we found a piece of thin oak at Home Depot and built the top. Doug was able to match up the stain color pretty well. The only thing left to do is load it up with our k-cups and start using it. We love the convenience of having our k-cups separated, available and out of sight.

3. Powder Room

I’m tired of our granite, but we can’t afford to replace it right now. So, I decided to remove the granite backsplash to lighten up the powder room. Unbeknownst to me at the time of that brilliant decision, I was biting off a little more than I could chew and still call it a “mini-project!” 😉

My idea was to lighten up the room and give this little powder room some personality and pizazz. This project took me about 6 weeks to complete.

I had to remove the glue from the beadboard after taking off the backsplash. I also had to repaint the beadboard and the trim in the room. I decided that I was going to go ahead and change the vanity to a moody green for good measure. Painting this room was such a challenge because the room is so small but it is done!

I have to say that I love this little powder room now! It has style and personality. It is a great update considering I’m unable to update the granite at this time. And you better believe I have my sights on the kitchen after doing this project! 👀

4. Lamp Update

I have been hanging on to this lamp that I got from Pier One Imports at least 15 years ago. It was an expensive lamp for me back then and the size and shape of it are fantastic! I’ve had the idea of updating it to fit my decor.  I decided to try something I’ve never tried before and decoupage the lamp.  I wanted it to look like blue and white chinoiserie. Since I started with red mosaic tile, I first had to smooth out the surface. I used tile adhesive to create a smooth surface. I had to apply two coats to completely cover the mosaic tile.

I lightly sanded the tile adhesive once it was dry. I then started cutting out my napkins and planning my design. This project came together in one weekend and was such a joy to do! It also turned out so much prettier than I had imagined. Can you believe there’s red mosaic tile underneath there?

5. Artillery Shell Lamp

Doug has collected an artillery shell that I wanted to make into a lamp for him. I’ve had to do some research on this project because I need a top to attach the light kit to.  I really want the top to be brass.  Doug wants to shine the brass up and lacquer it but he hasn’t had the time to do it. I found a supplier for the brass cap, but I need to either order unlacquered brass or shiny brass. I finally was able to discuss this detail with Doug and have ordered the part, but it hasn’t come in.  So, there will be more to follow on this lamp project!

Hey, 3 out of 5 projects isn’t so bad, right?!  I’m very happy with what I was able to get finished. If you notice, Doug’s office is what I did not get finished. Once all the supplies come in, we will be ready to hang the special artwork for this room. I’ll update you when I get it done so check us out on Instagram so you don’t miss a thing!
