Installing the Picture Frame Molding

One Room Challenge, Weeks 5 & 6

For Week 5, I had to just face the music.  There was no way I was going to have time to work in the room. Instead, we headed to Front Royal, Virginia and had a blast with my family celebrating my niece’s wedding! My niece is named after my Mama, Dolly.  It was so heartwarming to find that she had brought a little of my Mama into her special day. My sister-in-law, Julie, made Dolly’s famous 5 Flavor Pound Cake for the welcome dinner and she put Amy and me in charge of cutting the cake and decorating the table.  I’ll not go into every single special thing that happened at the wedding, but seeing my Mama honored was very sweet and so special.

For Week 6, I was working solo for the most part.  Doug had visitors from out of town and they all went to the homecoming game together.  Since I had the time, I played around with rearranging the picture frames.  I was not satisfied with the original placement because it involved having to work out the trim around several electrical outlets.  So, I played around with the placement and changed it several times before I came up with the perfect spacing.

Doug had made me a jig so I’d have the right spacing, I just had to kind of start in the middle of the wall where the outlets were to get it to work out for me. After getting everything just right, I spent the time to find the studs and mark each frame so we could put a nail in the right spot. I decided to use painter’s tape to mark the spot. The next day when Doug was home, we set up the compressor and used the nail gun to install the picture frame molding.

I left the tape on the spots where we nailed the molding up so I can just use hole filler and over the tape and not have such a mess to clean up.  I’ll share that next week.  It’s a great tip I learned from a friend!

Stay tuned to next week when I’ll figure out the art for the room!
